Increasing Food Security Through Intensification and Diversification
Objective: Food security through intensification and diversification of agricultural produce.
Means: Irrigation development and home gardening, crop and livestock production, bees and poultry and developing potable water sources.
Thanks to Caritas Belgium and Belgium Survival Fund there will be about 10,000 household beneficiaries.
Health and social development projects
Mekele: The Daughters of Charity are providing health benefits over the next three years to over 217,700 individuals in Mekele, Latchi village and the nearby villages. he health care includes maternal and child health care services, curative eye care including major eye surgeries, promoting community awareness on the prevention of blindness and other eye diseases.
Social programmes include providing 30 elderly and handicapped women with houses of their own.
The "Gebremichael Street Children's" programme enables 200 street children to have access to basic needs. By 2006 the number of such children should be reduced by 25%
The Women's development project has 400 beneficiaries.
Adigrat:
The overall objective is to contribute to improving the livelihood of about 300 poor households/individuals and 150 students affected by displacement and drought. The major activities of this endeavour include:
- Construction of four marketing shelters for 120 poor petty traders.
- Assisting 150 needy students for six months.
- Assisting about 180 poor people/ households by establishing six
cooperatives.
Children's village: Adwa
The specific objective of this endeavour is to facilitate the human, social and economic development of orphaned children and those in very difficult circumstances in Adwa .
