Women In Development/Gender Equality and Development (WID/GAD)

There are six women promotion centres sponsored by the Coordinating Office of the ADCS.

Objectives:

- Upgrading the women's promotion centres and so run sustainable and viable income generating projects.

- To ensure that women/girls are active participants and beneficiaries of the social and development programmes of ADCS.

- To sensitise and create awareness among women of their rights and equal opportunities.

- Rehabilitating poor women-headed families by organizing them into groups and conduct gender-mainstreaming workshops.

This project is funded by Caritas Italiana.

 

HIV/AIDS : prevention care and support

 

This pandemic has multiple consequences not just for the patient in question but for the whole household. From Adigrat the goal of the project is to increase the capacity of the Catholic Church through its institutions to respond appropriately and efficiently to this rampant pandemic. This outreach covers the eastern zone of Tigray. There are Voluntary Counselling Tests (VCT) at the Catholic clinics of Alitena and Idaga Hamus. From Mekele the direct project covers Mekele town, Inderta Wereda and the southern zone of Tigray. There are an estimated 1,200 beneficiaries.

Both Caritas Germany and CAFOD fund this project.
